Kalen Larson is an Assistant Professor of Theatre Technology and Technical Director at Michigan Technological University located in Houghton, MI. Through his work in rigging, stage mechanics, and multimedia Kalen brings science, technology, and engineering to the arts. His work in theatre and entertainment technology stretches across the country with companies including: PlayMakers Repertory Company, Pine Mountain Music Festival, Studio LaPaglia, Sapsis Rigging, and the Island Resort and Casino.  Kalen holds an MFA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Through Kalen's leadership his students have been invited to present at the Kennedy Center's American College Theatre Festival.  As an ETCP certified theatre rigger Kalen is recognized as being in the top 1% of theatre riggers. Kalen has written for Yale's Technical Brief. He has also had his work nationally recognized by the United States Institute for Theatre Technology through their Theatre Technology Exhibit.   As a popular presenter Kalen can be heard beyond the classroom at various events such as the USITT Annual Conference.
